“Itβs just nice to meet another human who shares my affinity for elf culture.β We were just a bunch of cotton-headed ninny muggins having a fun night watching a movie together, far apart. We may not be able to do our normal holiday festivities, but the virtual Elf watch party was joyful, and cozy. Despite being spread across the state Buddy connected us and would have loved all sugar we had!
To accompany the craziness of Elf, “home campers” were all given gift bags to enhance the overall cozy-factor. The bags included all kinds of tasty treats, cozy blankets and socks, hot coco, and extra love.
While of course we all wish we could be together, 2020 has been an exercise in making the most of every situation. While there may be much that is lacking this holiday season, there is also so much to be grateful for. Thanks everyone for adapting and making this watch party a special night!
A few of you were asking about some recipes from the gift bags. My mother, Judy Mikita, was kind enough to make me a cookbook of family recipes that really belong to the world. The Caramel Corn is my great Aunt Ella’s recipe, I love the family history of it, but swap the margarine out for butter! π
Buckeyes are an Ohio tradition and make wonderful snacks for any movie night or event. The Buckeye is the state tree of Ohio, and produces a poisonous nut and beautiful pink flowers. Don’t worry, these are safe (unless you have a nut allergy, the avoid). But these are a staple of Ohio but beloved by all! Again, I substitute out the margarine for butter, and coconut oil for shortening, and sometimes dark chocolate and almond butter, chef’s choice. And notice how my mom, in her perfect English teacher cursive, told me to “use clean hands…” I did.
Enjoy, grateful for all of you, Happy Holidays from Club Forget Me Not!
